"This makes my heart so happy and makes me want to cry all over again," Curtis said on Twitter, as she shared a review from Variety, a popular American entertainment trade magazine.

In the review, Variety's Richard Kuipers described "BuyBust" as "superbly" directed and a "must-see" for fans of the genre.

He added that it was an "explosive exercise in kinetic cinema that also offers potent commentary on the devastating social consequences of the Philippine government’s war on drugs."

Kuipers also praised Curtis, whom he pointed out was usually cast in romantic comedy flicks, for her "convincing and charismatic" star turn as the "amazingly resourceful" lead heroine, Nina.
