ai vision-Shooting: Philippines wins medals in action-air world tournament

The Philippines took home medals after participating in the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Action Air World Shooting Championship held in Hong Kong on June 29 to July 3.

The Ponch Balolong-mentored squad took home medals in 3 categories.

Allen Marcos won gold in the classic junior category, while Eco Navarro clinched bronze in the open junior classification.

The trio of Marcos, Clyde Santos and Jonathan Medrano emerged as second runner-up in the team classic category.

The competition, which makes use of airsoft guns instead of real firearms, featured 480 participants from 22 countries.

According an article posted on the International Sports Press Association website, the competition will test participants’ “shooting skills by using handguns, which fire harmless BB pellets at paper and reactive targets.”

“This style of shooting is of particular benefit to youth, because it gives them the opportunity to develop personal discipline and a respect for firearms,” the report said.

Action air shooting is popular in countries such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau and Japan, where strict gun laws are enforced. The sport is only limited to handguns.
