Mike de Leon's "Bayaning 3rd World," about two filmmakers' attempt to make a movie about the life of Jose Rizal, can now be viewed for free online after Solar Pictures acquired the rights to it.

Solar Pictures uploaded the whole movie on Vimeo Friday, with the catch that it will only be available for a month.

"Bayaning 3rd World," which was shot entirely in black and white, is a "part-investigative documentary, part-satire."

It was made after De Leon's original planned movie about the national hero starring Aga Muhlach was scrapped.

Its official synopsis read: "More than a century after his death, two filmmakers struggle to make some sense of the mystery that surrounds the events of the last day in the life of Rizal.

"Their attempts to adapt his life into a film lead them to confront key figures in the martyr’s life before perhaps an eventual confrontation with the man himself."

It was first released in 1999.
