Three months after the sudden death of her character in "Bagani," Sofia Andres returned as a cast member of the fantaserye Tuesday, in a shocking twist that had the episode top trending topics on social media.

Believing they've eliminated the last Sarimaw's (Ryan Eigenmann) malevolent forces, Lakas (Enrique Gil) and the rest of Sansinukob found reason to celebrate.

However, unknown to them, the vengeful mother of Sarimaw, Malaya (Kristine Hermosa), had long been planning to conjure up a new kind of terror — in the form of what appeared to be the re-animated corpse of Mayari (Andres).

Mayari, one of the five original bagani, died when she was struck in a thunderstorm unleashed by Sarimaw in the series' April 5 episode. Her body, wrapped in a white cloth, was subsequently shown being sent to sea, as part of the Taga-Loot region's funeral practice.

Hooded with a similar garb, a figure similar to Mayari emerged in the closing minutes of "Bagani's" episode Tuesday. She approached an awaiting Malaya, who appeared to have summoned her.

With dead eyes and and a blank expression, Mayari, however, was far from the brave heroine she had been before she died. A smirking Malaya hinted that Mayari was under her spell.

"Tingnan ko lang kung kaya pa siyang patayin ng mga kaibigan niyang bagani," Malaya is shown saying in a teaser for the Wednesday episode.

Even before the episode ended, its official hashtag, #BaganiProppose, already zoomed up as the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter in the Philippines. Many aired their shock over Andres' comeback, with several saying they did not see the twist coming.

Andres' sudden departure from the show in April courted intrigue, with rumors swirling that her row with members of the press at the time, over a "cold" demeanor which she eventually apologized for, had something to do with her exit.

However, in May, Andres clarified in an interview that she had known early on about her character dying. "Sinabi po 'yon from the very start. Sabi ko, 'Kailan kaya ako mamamatay?' So seventh week na pala 'yon. Ang bilis pala. Pero okay lang, at least I was a part of it," she said at the time.

Mayari's slot in the five-member group of bagani has since been occupied by Liksi (Zaijan Jaranilla), who similarly wields a shield and is now the vehicle of the powers of Kataw (Ahron Villena), a mythical mercreature.
