MANILA, Philippines – Challenger Manny Pacquiao sparred for five rounds on Saturday, while defending World Boxing Association (WBA) champion Lucas Matthysse doubled his effort with just eight days left before their monumental clash in Malaysia.

Pacquiao, fighting for the first time since losing in controversial fashion to Jeff Horn in Australia last year, looked calm and happy with how his preparations have transpired so far.

The 39-year-old boxing icon insists that he feels rejuvenated, as he eyes an 11th world title in his 23rd year as a professional.

The card, called "Fight of Champions," will take place at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur.

Standing in Pacquiao's way, however, is the Argentine Matthysse, who is leaving no stone unturned in his campaign of retiring the "Pacman."

Pacquiao sparred for two rounds with compatriots Jheritz Chavez and another three with unbeaten Australian lightweight George Kambosos Jr., as their training sessions begin to taper down.

In stark contrast, Matthysse's corner is showing a different rout as they closed out sparring sessions also on Saturday. Trainer Joel Diaz was satisfied with the Argentine's condition and speed, and was convinced that his fighter is ready to fight at any moment.

Matthysse and his team arrived two nights ago in Kuala Lumpur from Los Angeles in hopes of acclimatizing early in his bid to retain his welterweight title.

But Pacquiao's team is unfazed with Matthysse's plans. Chief trainer Buboy Fernandez believes that the "Pacman" has done enough in training to dethrone the Argentine.

"Siya mismo ang nagsabi na happy siya sa training camp ngayon," said Fernandez. "Lalung-lalo na sa buong team, puro tayo Filipino."

"Si Coach Justin (Fortune) naman, iyong cooperation niya bilang conditioning coach," he added. "Kumbaga, naibalik na iyong sigla sa buong team kasi lahat kami, nagtutulungan."
