bin picking – Inday intensifies into tropical storm, to bring rains across Luzon

MANILA—Tropical depression Inday has intensified into a storm on Wednesday night and is expected to bring more rains across Luzon, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

In its 11 p.m. advisory, PAGASA said the storm was last spotted 825 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

It is forecast to move northeast at 15 kph and leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Saturday morning.

Inday will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, locally called "habagat."

Moderate to occasional heavy monsoon rains are expected over the Ilocos region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga and Bulacan.

Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna and the rest of Central Luzon will, meanwhile, experience scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rains until Friday.

Residents in these areas are warned of flash floods and landslides.

No storm signals have been raised but PAGASA stressed that sea travel is risky over the seaboard of Central Luzon and eastern seaboard of Northern Luzon.

Heavy rainfall due to the enhanced southwest monsoon has forced the cancellation of classes in several areas.
