MANILA (UPDATE) – Tropical depression Florita intensified into a tropical storm Friday, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

No tropical cyclone warning signals have been raised as the storm is not expected to make landfall.

It will, however, enhance the southwest monsoon which will bring occasional rains over the extreme Northern Luzon area this weekend, PAGASA said.

As of 3 p.m., the center of the storm was spotted at 820 km east of Basco, Batanes and packs maximum sustained winds of up to 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

It is forecast to move northwestward at a speed of 9 kilometers per hour.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected within the 300 km diameter of Florita.

PAGASA said the storm is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Sunday morning.
