MANILA – Rains are still expected to douse parts of Luzon and Visayas until Wednesday as Typhoon "Gardo" continues to enhance the southwest monsoon while it moves away from the country, state weather bureau PAGASA said Tuesday.

Typhoon "Gardo" is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday as it travels towards Taiwan at 30 kph, but the southwest monsoon may prevail for the next 5 days, PAGASA said.

Typhoon "Gardo" was last spotted 635 kilometers east north east of Basco, Batanes packing maximum sustained winds up to 170 kph and gustiness up to 210 kph, PAGASA said in its 11 a.m. briefing.

Light to moderate rains are expected in Zambales, Cavite, Bataan, Batangas, Mindoro, Northern Palawan, and Romblon, while Metro Manila, Western Visayas, and Central and Southern Luzon will experience scattered rainshowers, PAGASA said.
