MANILA – Mayor Antonio Halili of Tanauan City in Batangas, who was shot dead during a flag-raising ceremony last week, was laid to rest Sunday afternoon.
Family, friends and supporters wearing yellow shirts joined the funeral procession for Halili. The slain mayor was buried at the Loyola Memorial Gardens.
Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas honored Halili with a posthumous award of recognition for his exemplary service as mayor of Tanauan.

During the necrological services, the grandchildren of Halili sang the slain mayor's favorite song, "Bed of Roses" and "Dance WithMy Father."

Halili, who became controversial for his "walk of shame" parade of alleged drug dealers, was one of three local government officials killed this past week.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency earlier insisted that the slain mayor had ties to the narcotics trade, echoing President Rodrigo Duterte's accusation.

But Halili's daughter, Angeline, claimed Duterte had been fed false information about her father, whom she said would rather die than deal with drugs.

Police investigators said they have already identified 3 persons of interest in Halili's killing, of whom 2 are allegedly linked to the narcotics trade.
