bin picking-A link in 3 city officials’ slay? NBI probe on

MANILA – The Department of Justice on Sunday said it has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look into whether or not there is a link between the broad daylight attacks that killed 3 city officials this week.

Tanauan Mayor Antonio Halili of Batangas, General Tinio Mayor Ferdinand Bote of Nueva Ecija and Trece Martires Vice Mayor Alexander Lubigan of Cavite were all gunned down by unidentified assailants in public places just days apart.

“There’s another ambush, this time the vice mayor of Trece Martires City was the target. [I have instructed Director Dante Gierran to] include this in the NBI’s ongoing investigation and determine if there’s a pattern or the incidents were unrelated," Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said in a text message to ABS-CBN News.

"We need immediate results,” he added.

Lubigan was shot dead inside his sports utility vehicle as he was leaving a hospital in Trece Martires on Saturday.

Bote was also on board his vehicle when he was shot up close by a gunman wearing a hooded jacket on Tuesday.

His killing came just a day after Halili, whom President Rodrigo Duterte linked to the narcotics trade, was shot dead during a flag-raising ceremony at the Tanauan city hall.
