ZAMBOANGA CITY (UPDATED) – The vice mayor of Sapa Sapa town in Tawi-Tawi was gunned down Wednesday.

According to a family member, Vice Mayor Al Rasid Mohammad Alih was on the passenger seat of his vehicle when he was shot by motorcycle-riding gunmen while traversing Governor Alvarez Avenue.

Police said Alih died in the hospital after sustaining two gunshot wounds in his chest.

Alih is the latest casualty in a series of killings involving local government officials.

Three local officials were killed over the past week. 

Mayor Antonio Halili of Tanauan City, Batangas was shot dead Monday last week, while Mayor Ferdinand Bote of General Tinio, Nueva Ecija was shot Wednesday.

Vice Mayor Alex Lubigan of Trece Martires, Cavite was shot dead Saturday.
