MANILA – Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday told former Senator Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to "stop lying" about a pool party attended by her employees and head revisors of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET).
Marcos, who is contesting his loss to Robredo in the 2016 vice-presidential race before the PET, asked the Supreme Court on Monday to investigate the alleged outing in Calamba, Laguna.
"Alam n'ya iyung totoo… Sana mahinto na 'yung pagsisinungaling n'ya, kasi tila ginagamit nya itong kaso na ito para magkaroon ng plataporma na parati siyang nasa publiko," Robredo told reporters.
(He knows the truth. I hope that his lying will stop because he seems to be using his case as a platform to stay in the public eye.)
The PET had invited Marcos and Robredo's revisors to the pool party due to "growing tensions" between the 2 camps, said the vice president's lawyer, Romulo Macalintal.
"In fact, the Marcos camp provided food for the said event as reported to us by our revisor," he said in a statement.
Revisors from the PET and Robredo's camp "know the limits" of their relationship, which will not compromise the recount, said Macalintal.
Marcos had sought a recount of the votes in the vice-presidential race, the closest in recent history, claiming "massive cheating" cost him the post.
