bin picking-Fake P10,000 bill tracked down, Bangko Sentral says

MANILA — The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas said Monday it found and secured the fake P10,000 bill that went viral on the internet.

There was only one copy of the "crude" note that was found in Pampanga province north of the capital. An investigation is underway, said Joy Ditching-Lorico, managing director of the BSP’s Currency Management sub-sector.

"Wala po kaming ilinalabas na P10,000 piso note. Pag nakakita ng pekeng pera, ang unang gawin ay lumapit sa pinakamalapit na tangapan ng BSP," Lorico said.

(We did not release a P10,000 note. If you see fake money, the first thing to do is report it to the nearest BSP office.)

BSP warns public against fake P10-K banknote

The BSP issued a warning to the public on Facebook late Friday after it monitored an image of a purported P10,000 note online. The warning went viral, with over 32,000 shares, 10,000 reactions and 2,000 comments.

The BSP has produced peso bills higher than P1,000 in the past, but these were only commemorative like the P100,000 and P2,000 Centennial Notes in 1998.
