bin picking-Hundreds join walk for plastic reduction awareness in Bacolod
BACOLOD CITY – Around 300 students, volunteers, and environmentalists in this city on Saturday joined the campaign to reduce use of plastic to save marine life.
In Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation Inc's (PRRCFI) campaign SWEEP (Sea Waste Education to Eradicate Plastic) Walk, volunteers picked up plastic trash on the streets and disposed them properly.
Kaila Ledesma, PRRCFI vice president for science and conservation, said plastic trash usually go all the way to the oceans, thus affecting marine life.
The main purpose of the SWEEP Walk is to encourage people to stop using plastic because it is not good for the environment, Ledesma added.
The group is set to ask help from the city government of Bacolod to help raise public awareness on plastic reduction.
