MANILA — San Miguel Corp can build a bridge between Boracay Island and Caticlan in 2 years, said its president Ramon Ang, adding the conglomerate was ready to submit its proposal to government.

The concrete bridge will cost P3 billion and San Miguel expects a return on investment in 10 to 15 years, Ang said. Tourists at present get to Boracay from the Aklan mainland only by ferry.

San Miguel unit TransAire Development Holdings Corp renovated the Caticlan Airport, which was opened to jet aircraft for the first time in 2016.

"We think we can build the bridge within 2 years. All concrete. Passable ang ilalim ng barko (Ships can pass below). It can handle sewage and all solid waste," he said.

The government shuttered Boracay for 6 months from late April to give way to a massive cleanup.
