MANILA, Philippines – Batangas-Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) piled on the woes of the suddenly-skidding Go for Gold, as the Generals dealt the Scratchers a stunning 87-85 upset in the 2018 PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Cyrus Tabi scored the game-winning fast-break lay-up at the buzzer for the Generals, as they kept themselves in the hunt for a playoff spot by improving their record to an even 3-3.

In the process, they also handed the Scratchers their second straight loss of the conference.

"I wasn't expecting this, knowing na Go for Gold is very strong individually," admitted Batangas-EAC coach Oliver Bunyi. "I think we're just lucky that we got this one."

New acquisition Michael Mabulac shone for Batangas-EAC, finishing with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds.

He also came up with the crucial play in crunch time as he tipped the ball off James Martinez, which led to Clark Bautista finding Tabi in transition for the game-winner.

It was an impressive display for the Generals, which trailed by as much as 11 points and were still down, 65-75, in the early goings of the final period.

Bautista scored 16 points and grabbed seven boards for Batangas-EAC, while Tabi finished with 13.

Kris Porter had 22 points and six boards in a losing effort for Go for Gold, which now has a 4-2 win-loss record.

Martinez and Ron Dennison combined to score 24 points.
