robot vision-SM celebrates 60 ‘AweSM’ years with star-studded launch

Exciting sale events and fun experiences abound from May to October as SM celebrates its 60th anniversary.

It has been 60 years since Henry Sy, Sr. opened the first Shoemart in Carriedo, Manila in 1958. SM has grown steadily, opening branches in towns and provinces, bringing shopping and dining opportunities closer to home.

On its 60th anniversary, SM looks back at its rich and inspiring journey as a brand that has grown from a humble shoe store into one of the country’s biggest integrated property developers.

"For six decades, SM has become part of the lives of every Filipino family – from a kid choosing his first pair of school shoes at The SM Store, spending your first paycheck on groceries at SM Markets to treat mom and dad, SMDC enabling a young couple to acquire a home of their own, to sharing a fun weekend with the whole family at SM Supermalls,” said Steven Tan, SM Supermalls Chief Operating Officer.

SM kicked off its 60th anniversary celebration with an #AweSM launch party at SM Mall of Asia on May 21, where the brand's celebrity friends and endorsers all came to show their support.

Some of the celebrities spotted at the party were Gerald Anderson, Xian Lim, Ruffa Gutierrez, Raymond Gutierrez, Richard Gutierrez, Sarah Lahbati, Tim Yap, Denise Laurel, Bettina Carlos, Tommy Esguerra, Hayden Kho, and Vicki Belo.

SM Woman's Bituin Escalante, Frenchie Dy, and Radha were also in attendance to belt out an amazing rendition of SM's jingle, "We've got it all for you."

Society personalities and industry leaders also came to celebrate SM's 60th year, showing the prominence of the brand in all lifestyle circles.

Asia's Best Female Chef 2016 Margarita Fores came to show her support, alongside designer and philanthropist Tessa Prieto-Valdes, F1 racer Marlon Stockinger, football player Anton del Rosario, Miss Earth Philippines 2018 Silvia Celeste Cortesi, and award-winning broadcast journalist Ces Drilon.

As part of the celebration, mall-goers were treated to #AweSM weekend and kick-off parties in participating SM malls.

The fun will continue from May to October, when an array of 60-themed discounts and promos will be available in SM malls, such as 60% off, pay only P60, pay P60 less, or pay only 60%.

Turning 60 is by no means getting older – it only means bigger deals and thrills across its malls nationwide. Tessie Sy-Coson, vice chairperson of SM Investments Corporation, said, "At 60, we are a senior citizen now, and it allows us to be nostalgic. But it's not the history that we're celebrating today, we're celebrating our future."

"We stand here, looking up the journey ahead, and we're ready and excited for what is in store. We thank you for being a part of this journey and we hope that you can continue joining us through the exciting part ahead of us."

Tons of shopping sales and dining deals await at SM Supermalls. For more information about the sale events and fun happenings during the #AweSM 60 years celebration, visit the SM Supermalls Facebook page or check out www.smsupermalls.com.
